Ways to Stay Active This Holiday Season

Ways to Stay Active This Holiday Season

The holiday season is a time of joy, celebration, and often indulgence. While rest and relaxation are often tempting, staying active is crucial for your overall well-being. Staying active and maintaining a semblance of an exercise routine may seem like an impossible task with a calendar full of parties and obligations but here are some tips to keep you moving and feeling your best during the holiday season.

  1. Stretch during commercials
    1. Whether you are watching football games or Holiday movies, it is easy to find yourself sitting for hours. An easy way to keep yourself from sitting or slouching too much is to get up during commercials. It is the perfect opportunity to do a quick 2-minute exercise or stretch. Choose something as simple as heel raises, squats, lunges, balance or even taking laps around the couch. Adding some standing leg or back stretches is another good way to pass the time. You can alternate exercises during each commercial break.
  2. Set realistic goals
    1. Schedules can get busy during the holiday season so it is essential to set achievable exercises goals. Instead of spending hours at the gym or going for mile long walks/runs, short high-intensity workouts or quick home exercises can be just as effective. By setting goals that are more realistic it will help you stay motivated and consistent.
  3. Family fitness
    1. One way to make being active fun is getting the family involved. Plan active outings, such as hiking, biking or going for a long walk. Making physical activity a shared experience strengthens family bonds and ensures everyone is staying active together.
  4. Prioritize posture
    1. Whether you are wrapping gifts or cooking up a holiday feast, be mindful of your posture. Proper body mechanics can help prevent strain and discomfort. Make sure to engage your core muscles and stand tall. Take needed breaks to stretch to maintain optimal posture.
  5. Hydration and nutrition
    1. Maintaining a well-balanced diet and staying hydrated are important. Proper nutrition and hydration support our energy levels, helping you stay active and alert during the holiday season.

Remember, staying active does not need to be complicated or time-consuming. Incorporating simple, enjoyable activities into your holiday routine will help contribute to your overall well-being. So, make sure to stay motivated and moving this holiday season.
